Dr Pramesh is the Professor and Chief of Thoracic Surgery in the Department of Surgical Oncology at the Tata Memorial Centre. He is also academic faculty at the Institute of Cancer Policy, King’s Health Partners’ Integrated Cancer Centre and Visiting Professor at the Division of Cancer Studies, King’s College London. He specializes in the surgical treatment of esophageal, lung, mediastinal and chest wall tumors and has a keen interest in minimal invasive thoracoscopic surgery.

He is a keen researcher and his broad research interests include innovative management strategies in esophageal and lung cancer. He is the Principal Investigator in several investigator initiated and industry sponsored trials in these areas. He is the PI in the largest randomized trial to date on the role of radical lymphadenectomy in operable esophageal cancer and the largest randomized trial on screening for upper aerodigestive tract cancers.

In addition, he is also the PI in several other investigator initiated randomized trials including the role of fluid restriction in esophageal surgery, a comparison of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with chemoradiotherapy in esophageal cancer, amongst others. He has over 150 publications and book chapters in various aspects of thoracic oncology, general oncology and cancer policy.

He is the coordinator of the National Cancer Grid, a national network of cancer centres in India, Directorate member of the Worldwide Innovative Networking Consortium (WIN), Executive Committee member of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus (ISDE), Secretary of the Indian Society for Diseases of the Esophagus and Stomach (ISES) and is on the core committee of the Clinical Research Secretariat at the Tata Memorial Hospital. He is also a reviewer for various journals like the Lancet Oncology, Annals of Surgery, Annals of Thoracic Surgery and the European Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
